Listen: Sampa The Great's New Mixtape Aptly Named "The Great Mixtape"
Sampa The Great's album description is simple, yet encompassing. The Zambian-born, Botswana-raised, and Australia-based rapper and singer-songwriter states, "It's a search for creativity, laughter, purpose & rhythms".
Each track is interwoven with an easy boastfulness, wit, and include messages varying from a declaration of self-worth to consumerism. On "Revolution" Sampa pauses briefly to provide "information and inspiration" with fiery speeches from Malcolm X, Leo Muhammad and Dr. Khalid Adbul Muhummad. In "Born to Be Blue" she playfully stutters through her verses. She recounts simple pleasures - blue skies, friends, and chatting about the world at barbecues, while still reminding us "I am great, we great, you great." Sampa's album, aptly named, "The Great Mixtape" is available for free download here.
